As is tradition in the region, the Bertere blends the two grape varieties Bonarda and Barbera. Andreana adds a further third of Merlot to these. The three varieties are harvested at different times: Merlot—an early-ripening variety—in early September, after ten more days of Barbera, followed by Bonarda. During the winter, Barbera and Bonarda are blended to rest in large oak barrels for a year. Only then is the Merlot added. The wine then ages for another year in large barrels before being bottled. Its enjoyment is of a carefree nature. It is delicious, balanced, and suitable almost whenever we feel like an everyday wine.
